Meeting Picasso, Cubism; Students painted portraits or self-portraits in the style of Cubism, in which Picasso´s work was a unique source of inspiration. The workshop began with the lesson about history of Pablo Picasso and his invention of Cubism. We showed them the short educational video, "What is Cubism?" by Tate Kids. We then tried to capture the idea of Cubism in discussion and to get them to understand that it is seeing one object from multiple perspectives at one time. Each student experimented with a range of techniques such painting, drawing and writing in order to create a personal version of the masterpiece. They used special watercolor paper for drawing and sketching, colored pencils, graphite pencils, acrylic brushes of various shapes, wooden pencils with acrylic effect. Pigments blend easily with water and get the features of classic watercolor painting, which was especially interesting and new to some students. They used watercolor paints that are safe as they are non-toxic, water-based, acid-free. We love the final result! |
